The new short and medium-term targets envision a 35% reduction in absolute net Scope I, II and III emissions by 2030 and 80% by 2040. In addition, the target of Net Zero emissions from Eni’s operations (Scope I and II) has been brought forward to 2035 and a new reduction target of 40% in 2025 has been set.
Eni suppliers are frequently subject to assessment with regards to social responsibility aspects. In 2021, 6,318 suppliers were subject to checks and assessments with reference to environmental and social sustainability aspects.

Eni's sustainability strategy consists of three pillars: carbon neutrality by 2050, operational excellence, and alliances for development. The Board of Directors has a central role in defining sustainability policies and strategies, in identifying annual, four-year and long-term objectives and in monitoring results. In performing its sustainability duties, the Board of Directors is supported by the Sustainability and Scenarios Committee (SSC), which provides information, makes proposals and provides advice on scenarios and sustainability, for example in the areas of climate transition and the protection of rights, in particular human rights..
